Experimenting with Tights

I want to see if I can add this effect to the costume.

Tights with latex without thickener and it is already stretch out.

Not stretch and dipped a couple of times in non thickened latex.

Neither of these worked, I need to find something else.

Monday:
After just getting back from rehearsals I need to mention that with two weeks to go the actor playing Hermes has decided he does not want to carry on with the show. The director and writer are very confident we are going to find another actor to play the part. It will probably have to be a Professional actor. We will make it a better show as long as we all pull together and be a stronger team. The Show will Go on!!

Theatre is a lot about problem solving with small things of working out where it is best for a particular actor to stand to a large issue of losing an actor two weeks before the show will go on but with dedication something always comes up and problems are resolved. Big or Small. I also got Hera's measurements as it was the first chance to get hold of them.

Tuesday:
Tonight Stephen has found a new actor to play Hermes. He seems perfect for the part but couldn't start until Thursday so will be able to see what he is like. I have been mostly concentrating on Hermes blocking to make sure it will be easy for him to pick up.

Thursday:
Tonight I prompt as I feel I have all the blocking written down. I also helped one of the costume designers get all the measurements for each actor apart from Aphrodite, as she is away until Tuesday. The measurements I had got before were not really good enough.

Friday:
I helped out with Costume today. Went out sourcing parts of costumes for Hermes and Paris. Only came out with a shirt but took some photos of other possibilities.

Monday: After missing the rehearsals the week before for personal reasons I had to get back into it and I had realised I had missed a full show run-throughs. Also I had John Pattison coming in to provide music and a fellow costume student sitting through rehearsals working out costumes. In this rehearsal I carried on with writing down blocking with the help of the Becca the other DSM. Also I discovered the actors need an audience on each side of a the stage so the actors felt natural playing to both sides.

Tuesday: The rehearsals today were checking the blocking through scenes with the Goddesses and Hermes. The show is moving at quite a pace now and is looking like it will be a great show.

Thursday: I was very unprofessional and totally forgot about rehearsals until this morning (Friday).

Iris's Wednesday Workshops Poster

I had this idea to start with, getting inspiration from the posters below, but I don't think it is very suitable.

I started off with this background lightened it and then add typography.

Inspiration found from a Google Search

I then saw this Poster, simple, clean and easy to do.

Some simple drawings of ideas I have thought about.

I made this poster and was going to say this was fine.
but then I relooked at it and the spacing doesn't look right. I put this on the Facebook Event Cover Photo but it was squished and unsuitable. First I changed the Poster to portrait and created this.

I then decided to make the Facebook Event look more presentable I changed it to this.

I decided to do this properly and looked up the pixel size of the Facebook Event Cover Photo. Which is as below.

Update as of August 1, 2013: The cover photo for Facebook event is back to 851 pixels in width and 315 pixels in height.
  1. Width: 851 pixels.
  2. Height: 315 pixels.
- See more at: http://www.twelveskip.com/tutorials/facebook/521/size-of-facebook-event-cover-photo-2013#sthash.ePtgGqkc.dpuf

Doing this it perfectly fits on the page and looks more presentable and appealing.
I and Iris will be adding more information to the Event Page as time goes on.

Monday

Got to rehearsals tonight to find that there was another new Paris, third time lucky I suspect. To catch up with everything we went back over the scenes Paris hadn't done and started blocking a new scene. It was good as I could right all the actors major moves down in the script.

Tuesday

All the actors apart from one were there tonight. A lot of scenes were blocked tonight and I got pictures and measurements of all the actors.

This is the World we live in...

This has been really thought provoking this morning. The conditions people live in. I know it is worse for people elsewhere but shit there are problems everywhere.

'Cheese'

This plastic cheese stuff has always confused me and it is used in most fast food places.

Day 2

This evening just did another read through as the lead role had made the decision he could not carry on with the show. This was useful as I  understood the show more and I read Aphrodite's part, she wasn't available. From this I learnt I might have to do this again. Steven also went through how to write blocking on the script.

Day 3

A new lead is sorted and I will meet him on Thursday. Tonight Scene 11 was gone through with Helen and I blocked this. It was suggested to do it in pencil in case of any mistakes so I will take this on board. Also as the first lead had gone the rehearsals have changed so this was sorted out and told to the other actors.

Day 4

Met the new lead tonight. He looks perfect for the part. Re-blocked scene the previous scenes Paris is in and got measurements for Helen and Paris. Thought it would be useful for the costume designers. Also tonight spoke to the other DSM and made a schedule of the rehearsals I will be at and the ones she will be at. As the dates are so far apart me and Becca are staying in contact over Facebook about any issues that arise.

Preserve

My thinking here would be to have a costume that looked like someone had just stepped out of a grave. The preservatives we eat causes us not to degrade properly and this would be a costume to show that.

Eye Costume Samples

Cheese Samples

That is latex and paint. I'm waiting for it to dry but it is stays that colour and shininess it will be perfect for one of my gorging designs.

What if Gender Roles in Advertising Were Reversed?

Was just sent this by a friend. It does get you thinking.

Mould Samples

Friday Night

Grey Cotton - Front

Calico - Back

Just to be awkward the back of this sample worked better, (minus the green cotton splurge) it is more puffy. Looking at the front side it needs more texture so I think trying different tones of green will work better.

I wonder what would happen if I sewed over fabric and using puff binder on it? I will have a nosey on Monday.

Saturday

I bought some backing in the bright Mcdonald colours. I think they look quite good. Maybe need to see if I can make the mould more floaty.

Free machining in progress. Looks better on here than in real life.

Same sample but with it being work into with felt. I'm going to try just using felt on calico and see how that works out as mould looks fluffy. Looks a bit too pretty.

Close up.

Mould

So last night (this morning) I got inspired by mould and remembered StumblingUpon (bit of product placement there but all should use this site for inspiration) this artist Elin Thomas. She creates textiles that has the look of mould. Her work is quite pretty and organic. I also looked into other artists that think mould is awesome to look at.

This idea has been growing in my head for a while but hadn't quite decided to take action until last night and it is shown in the boards I have put together on Pinterest.

The seed of the idea started growing with this image.

Mmmmhm. Not good is it. So a sort of opposite thing of making McDonald's mouldy or Ronald McDonald at least.

G O R G I N G - rotting This is an board all about the rotting/mouldy Ronald.
G O R G I N G - artists This board has mould on it. It is just so weird.

That is sort of where the idea from and this is what I did with it.

Needle Felting. So when I got up this morning I order some needles and went to town and bought some felt, I then went round to a friends house, who has taken up the craft and borrowed some needles and learnt the technique.

Laura's Needle Felting Creations

Went home and created these:

They look a bit to airy fairy I reckon so what I am going to do is getting some darker felt, navy probably and see if that adds more definition.

Also this morning I thought about the textile techniques I learnt last year and thought of screen printing using flock and puff binders. I'm going to make a screen on Monday but this is the design I have for it at this stage. (May change over the weekend.)

Hopefully going to look awesome when printed.

Pictures I traced.

Plans for the weekend are buy some cool toned cotton for free machining, working into wadding using cotton, combining the techniques and drawing a few more designs for the screen and possibly working out some more techniques.

Trapunto might be able to be used for the mould picture just above.
