Advertising Archive

I bought today 2 packs of 8 classic poster designs, one called Classic Cinema and the other Vintage Travel. These are partly research for the Manifesto research, with the effects the posters have, also I really like them. Reading the back of where the images on the poster were found, I found out that the 'Classic Cinema' posters were from a site called 'Advertising Archive'. This is a really good website for finding old posters and research into adverts. Just thought I would share it with you.

Peckham Rye

I have just found one of the best websites ever. I was looking at the graphic design Attitude Design website for research for the Manifesto Project but instead found Peckham Rye. It is a website that sells bespoke tailored ties, socks and scarves. I am not so interested in what it sells, it is the history and the website design I love.

The companies history:

Heritage

Journey

Family Tree

Meet the Family this is the best link. It is a video of the companies family history.

World Wide

Heritage Project:

I think this has changed my idea for the heritage project. I was thinking of doing something for traditional arts at the beginning of the project and I now have something to base it on.

Manifesto Project:

I was looking for a style that I could take inspiration for the toy theatre I am making for the manifesto project. I need to look at more styles but I am wanting to look at traditional styles.

Really Inventive

Tyree Callahan and His Amazing Chromatic Typewriter

It might look like just an old typewriter, but Washington-based artist Tyree Callahan has actually converted this antique 1937 Underwood Standard typewriter into an art instrument that makes beautiful paintings.
Callahan replaced the ink pads of the typewriter with colored paint pads and the letters with color markers, to create a painting machine he calls a Chromatic Typewriter. So instead of creating paintings with brushes, he types them with his unique typewriter. While it would take a while getting used to, and although it will probably never yield the detailed results of a brush, I have no doubt this thing could produce some pretty awesome artworks. After all, artists like Keira Rathbone use conventional typewriters to create exceptional works of art using just letters and symbols. I know it sounds strange, but lets face it, artists have used stranger things to unleash their painting talent (vomit, remote-controlled cars or theirlips, just to name a few).

Tyree Callahan submitted his original creation to the 2012 West Prize competition, an annual art prize whose winner is determined by popular vote.

Rest of my London Trip Presentation Research

Grayson Perry and the Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman TV Program

Might take offence and then turn and see Alan measles’

Grayson Perry: The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman Book

Other Research

I spent most of the time in the 'Who am I?' gallery.

I thought foetuses were interesting

I also liked the bit about emotions and the bit about gender, who decides if we are either boy or girl.

A lot about identity

I could look at this again for memories and the new 3D project (heritage)

Every time we do, see or learn something new connections in the brain are made.

Some Websites I looked at

Fourth Plinth Notes:

Greyson Perry's work is very about himself and his past. I like how he has made used the theme of the unknown craftsman. I want to look at this and traditional crafts so I am going to take inspiration from Greyson Perry for looking at traditional craftsman and Yinka Shinobare for looking at both his countries history and how he makes traditional looking things that can be related to both countries and cultures.

Alan Measle's Website

http://alanmeasles.posterous.com/

I found this when reading a review, from the Guardian, of Grayson Perry's exhibition ' The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman'. There was a link to it. I am thinking Grayson writes it with Alan's help.

The Lost TV Remote

I had lost the TV , a common occurrence in my house and Blue Peter had been left on. Anyway while trying to find the remote I notice a report about an exhibition called 'Daydreams and Diaries, the Story of Jacqueline Wilson' it is about Jacqueline Wilson's life and her books. It also has a bit about Nick Sharratt, the children's book illustrater. The exhibition is in Newcastle's Seven Stories museum, which is all about Children's books. I thought this would be good for Gemma to look at because she is interested in book illustration.

While I am helping Gemma out I thought I would tell Kim about this artist I found that makes jewellery, Rebecca Chalkley work reminded me of the rings Kim made. While looking through my visual diary I found a leaflet, I had picked up. Looking through the leaflet I found Rebecca Chalkley and that the leaflet is about a handmade craft fair, called Lustre, that is on 5th and 6th of November in It is in Lakeside Arts Center, Nottingham. It looks a lot better than your normal craft fair with handmade ceremics, jewellery, bags, scarfs and sculptures.
