Mould

So last night (this morning) I got inspired by mould and remembered StumblingUpon (bit of product placement there but all should use this site for inspiration) this artist Elin Thomas. She creates textiles that has the look of mould. Her work is quite pretty and organic. I also looked into other artists that think mould is awesome to look at.

This idea has been growing in my head for a while but hadn't quite decided to take action until last night and it is shown in the boards I have put together on Pinterest.

The seed of the idea started growing with this image.

Mmmmhm. Not good is it. So a sort of opposite thing of making McDonald's mouldy or Ronald McDonald at least.

G O R G I N G - rotting This is an board all about the rotting/mouldy Ronald.
G O R G I N G - artists This board has mould on it. It is just so weird.

That is sort of where the idea from and this is what I did with it.

Needle Felting. So when I got up this morning I order some needles and went to town and bought some felt, I then went round to a friends house, who has taken up the craft and borrowed some needles and learnt the technique.

Went home and created these:

They look a bit to airy fairy I reckon so what I am going to do is getting some darker felt, navy probably and see if that adds more definition.

Also this morning I thought about the textile techniques I learnt last year and thought of screen printing using flock and puff binders. I'm going to make a screen on Monday but this is the design I have for it at this stage. (May change over the weekend.)

Hopefully going to look awesome when printed.

Pictures I traced.

Plans for the weekend are buy some cool toned cotton for free machining, working into wadding using cotton, combining the techniques and drawing a few more designs for the screen and possibly working out some more techniques.

Trapunto might be able to be used for the mould picture just above.
