Making a Seagull Puppet Day One

This week is workshop week and for ark of the animals I am helping make a seagull puppet. We have had two people come in to help us.

This is Virofoam and it is a really useful resource for creating quick 3D shapes. It is strong and melts with a heat gun or in hot water but is better with a heat gun.

This is for the head, it was placed over a hat block.

This was for creating a the legs. Seagulls legs bend backwards as they walk so had to create this in the design.

Using two pin tacks and leather to create a bend.

The feet were created with lino cut into feet shapes and string to create the shape.

Covered with leather it creates a foot that looks like it.

The foot was attached to the doweling with glue.

So the foot didn't move about a piece of leather was added to the front to steady it.

Completed feet.

Creating the pattern by copying the original bird.

Final pattern ready to be cut out in foam.

I will be continuing with this tomorrow.
