Characters I'm not using

This costume is an orange body sock covered in pictures of boots.

Harriet de Winton uses old fabric like curtains, sacks and blanket (look at her 'The Adventures of Pinocchio' pictures) The style of this costume is inspired by plays I have seen that use simple costumes. It includes orange trousers, brown top and a light brown flat cap with big black boots.

This character's costume would be basically made from strips of shiny paper and feathers.

These costumes would be 'found', so the costumes would be looked for in charity shops. Looking at the Phaidon Costume theatre manual it says that costume designers 'find' csotumes in vintage shops, charity shops and hire clothing instead of making it.

Characters I have Chosen

Mike Teavee
Mike Teavee is a little boy that isn't bothered about going to the factory and would rather sit and watch telly. I would say he is quite selfish and described and desensitised.
Initial Thoughts: Melting together plastic toy soldiers and plastic guns.

Roly Poly Bird

The Roly Poly bird is a hero and a very pretty bird. He uses his language to help the monkeys, he is a clever character.
Initial Ideas:
Use shiny fabric and feathers to create this costume. I will see what else I can do by making my own fabric, if I choose this character.

Roald Dahl’s ‘James and the Giant Peach’ reached its 50th anniversary in 2011, celebrating with the re-issue of a colour gift edition (Puffin Books).
The
Centipede
The Centipede wears boots, 42 pairs of boots. Proud of being a pest.

Intial Ideas: This characters costume would be great if it was just full of boots, shoes and different types of footwear. Also make a cheeky looking mask.

Mrs Silver

Mrs Silver is a woman that is quite middle class in her thinking. Her dress sense is of a bubbly middle aged woman.

Initial ideas:

Mrs Silver would wear a brightly coloured suit and bright tights. She would wear a flowery pinny when in the house and she wouldn't wear the suit jacket.

The Giraffe

I need to work out how to make a giraffe costume without it looking like a pantomime costume. I need to some how make the giraffes neck grow and look a the movements of an umbrella and paper origami structures.

The Grand
High Witch

This woman is the most evil person in the world. She looks totally narmal though. She has a mask and undernieth a horrible nasty ugly beast. She wears a wig and has no hair. She doesn't have toes she has squared blocks instead. She wears gloves all the time to hide her ugly crooked hands.

Initial Ideas:
The witch will wear high pointed heels and when she takes them off she has square feet, instead of having of having toes. I want to add a foam attachment to the foot under the shoes. I was thinking for a the to have an ugly mask. and the pretty face undernieth. This is so it is more practical and natural looking and can be hiddne from the audience. She would wear a formal  dress. It will be looked at further later.

Mr Fox

Mr Fox is a very clever fox and prides himself on  not being caught by Bunce, Bean and Boggis. He loses his tail when it gets shot off. In the illustration Mr Fox wears a Blazer, waistcoat and scarf.
