Muppets and Sesame Street Puppet Theatre

But what exactly is a Muppet? According to some sources, including Jim Henson's wife, Jane, "Muppet" is a combination of the words "marionette" and "puppet." (A marionette is a specific type of puppet with strings attached to a control bar or bars, operated by a puppeteer from overhead.) However, Henson himself always said that he came up with the word "Muppet" because he liked the sound of it.
This is a really interesting article, talking about how to make a Muppet and different style of Muppets.

I found this research to start with and then found this DVD at the Library.

I have taken some screen shots of it.

Muppet Noses and eyes.

Muppets can change just by using double sided sticky tape and different accessories.

Two humans controlling one suit. In the video below there what the monster looks like.

This is Oscar's bin and to control him there is a man in another suit and Oscar's hands are controlled by him.

Then as big bird.

Small birds flying above Big Birds head.

All the puppets are used above the Muppeteers head just out of camera shot.
